In the first issue of GetConnected Magazine there was a very good article by Stacey Mcgregor which touched upon the topic of Email Marketing and its continued relevancy in today’s marketing campaigns.

A common comment is addressed in the article, the comment:

“RSS is guanteed to replace traditional email marketing”.

The thing is while RSS is a growing technology, for the most part right now those who use it are technical and more web aware. As Stacey puts it:

“The truth of the matter is that only 5% of internet users report using RSS aggregators to follow news, and 94% of women and 88% of men are reported to use email for the same purposes….

The truth is that email remains a powerful marketing strategy for customer retention. Not only is it cost efficient and easy to use, but frequent contact increases customer loyalty and help build brand recognition.

Even though delivery rates are lower than ever, response rates remain relatively high. The key to success with email marketing is to use good marketing practices and send clean messages.”

Stacey’s piece goes into more detail and is definitely worth a read if you can get your hands on a copy of the magazine. I have yet to find a copy of it online to link to, if I do, I will post the link in this article.

So what are the good email marketing practices? That is a theme I will discuss in future posts. You will also find information in past posts such as this one: Email Marketing Basics.
