Unsolicited Snail-Mail Marketing in Canada.
Two articles have caught my attention in the news today.
1. TheStar.com and its voices post where people reacted to recent news that Canada Post made a statement saying that Canadians enjoy receiving unsolicited mail.
2. TheGlobeandMail.com and its article about a website which has dedicated its pages and resources to informing Canadians how to remove themselves from the distribution of unsolicited mail.
Now unsolicited mail is described as any mail which is not specifically addressed to you. Items such as flyers and coupons for instance would fall in that category.
I for one am not going to completely jump on the eliminate all unsolicited mail bandwagon here. Do I like receiving unsolicited mail? Sometimes. The real question is do I like receiving irrelevant unsolicited mail? Absolutely not. I don’t need nor am I interested in finding out about hearing aids for example. Yet for some reason, some companies out there believe I do.
I have interest however in receiving mail, whether it be information or promotions, on products and services that appeal to me. So rather than create a “no contact list”, maybe someone should create an “interested in” list.
