RegisterFly refusing to die?
2007 was a bad year for RegisterFly.com. The once successful reseller for eNom turned ICANN Accredited Registrar lost its domain accreditation as a result of a number of reasons. There were rumours of everything from fraud to questionable customer service practices. Competing registrars ran promotions to help move Registerfly customers over in bunches. The biggest move was by GoDaddy who got an agreement in place to buy some 850,000+ domain customers from them. The company appeared destined to be wiped off the face of the web.
I had registered a domain name just before their supposed death. I got a great deal on a .ca, plus I wanted to check this company out. They were quite popular. But that’s not where I am going with this. Where I am going is I am in their dtabase of customers, as such I receive notices and promotions. Well I did anyway when they were still going well. Then all hell broke loose and all stopped.
But funny thing has happened, they started contacting me again. They have the same look and feel, just now instead of being RegisterFly.com they are RegFly.com. I really don’t think that is enough of a name change to throw people off the scent of what they had become. Is it?
I know I wouldn’t take the chance with any of my domain inventory. I Googled them to see if there were any newsworthy new developments or talk about their namechange/shortening. Or anything at all in regards to their apparent strategy going forward. But I haven’t seen any new news. Maybe my readers know more?
