The consumer-side of the business
In past post I emphasized the benefits of targeting the business/smb market but I don’t want you to think that it is the only really solid opportunity. There are a lot of exciting things going on for consumers as well.
Web 2.0 is all about user generated content. Millions of individuals around the world are creating content for the web using various services, often free or low costs services. The key behind the success of these service providers is to find creative ways to monetize. A combination or ad-revenues and pay-for upgrades have thus far proven to be the best model.
Weebly.com is an example of a solution geared towards the consumer. Today they only offer domain names as a pay for service, more is on the way by way of “pro” accounts. I have already discussed weebly enough, it is not something I want to get into further.
What I wanted to talk about though is a service I really like, from what I have seen. I have not yet given the solution a try for myself but plan on doing so in the near future. The solution is, channelme.tv. It takes the idea of Youtube and allows you to run your own video posting site/social network. The solution is free with the purchase of a dotTV domain name which will set you back just $24.95.
The dotTV extension has been around for some time now. It has had some success, but I don’t feel was ever fully taken advantage of. Partly due to technology. Today, most anyone can get access to the tools to create a video and upload to the web. Combine that with a service like this, and you have User Generated TV.
